Sierra Nevada College, also known as SNC, is a private Liberal Arts University located in Incline Village in the state of Nevada. The school is known for its programs in environmental science, entrepreneurship, computer science, entertainment technology, English, ski business & resort management, and teacher education.
SNC was first established in 1969 with a little over 20 students. The school was founded to educate students on the unique environment of the Lake Tahoe region. Most of the academic programs in SNC are applicable in the region. The college has prioritized courses that improve environmental, social, economic, and educational sustainability. In 1970 the school experienced growth and added departments in Fine Arts and Management. Then in the 80’s the school created the Teacher Education Program. The Master of Arts in Teaching Program was added in 2005, and the Master of Education in advanced teaching and leadership programs was added in 2008.
The major departments in SNC are Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Science, Business, and Science and Technology. The school also offers fourteen different majors. SNC offers degree programs in over 30 different fields, as well as continuing education programs, a summer arts program, and several other courses at satellite centers all over Nevada. The school has a student-faculty ratio of 13:1. The Teacher Education Program is offered in the Incline Village, Reno, and Las Vegas locations. Sierra Nevada College hosts Summer Visiting Artist Workshops, which hosts famous artists. This also attracts students from all parts of the Country, the Far East and Asia.
SNC competes in regional sports including snowboarding and skiing. Sierra Nevada College was the 2008 United States Collegiate Skiing and Snowboarding National Champions in both men's snowboarding and in women's skiing. The school colors are royal blue and white and the school nickname are the Eagles.
